Easy activities to do in your back garden!

There may be a lockdown but that doesn’t have to stop you from exploring your back garden and doing some fun easy activities out in the open air.

Easy Activities:

  1. Grab a tennis racket – you don’t always need a partner to play tennis. Take your racket and a ball and start bouncing. See how many times you can hit the ball while not letting it bounce. If you have a wall with no windows you can let them hit the ball against the wall as if they were playing against someone.
  2. Treasure hunt – create a treasure hunt for the kids and have them go around the garden completing challenges.
  3. Do some exercise – while the weather is nice out, it is the perfect time for their PE class to be outside.
  4. Play with chalk – let your kids imagination run away with them. They can draw on the ground and it will wash away with the next rain fall.
  5. Paint – get them to paint rocks or if your brave let them paint a part of the back wall!

Fun Games to Play:

  1. Wet darts – make a dart board and test your kids hand eye coordination. Get them to throw wet sponges at the dart board and get them to aim for different parts of the board or step further away to increase difficulty.
  2. Fishing – fill out a wide bucket or paddling pool with water and put in loads of marbles (you could use whatever you have instead of marbles like small stones).  Have the kids fish out the marbles with only their feet! You can turn this into a competition if you would like.
  3. Ring toss – fill up some bottles with water and set them up outside on the ground or on a table. You can make rings to throw at the bottles and see how many they can land!
  4. Bowling – you can use the bottles from the ring toss game, empty out the water and see how many you can knock down using a small ball.
  5. Painted X’s & O’s – get the kids to paint 5 rocks the same way i.e. same pattern or like a bug. Paint or use chalk to draw lines for the game and use the rocks to play.
  6. Bean Bag toss – use a ladder and have each step of the ladder be worth different points. The higher they can ge the bean bag to land, the more points they get.
