New survey reveals 86.6% don’t know the lactation breast is classed as an organ. Did you?
With World Breastfeeding Week in full swing and running until the 7th August, Medela reveals results from a recent social poll.
The breastfeeding brand discovered that an overwhelming 92% of participants knew that breast milk contained millions of live cells, however the same survey did reveal a lack of knowledge as to the specific and complex make-up of this unique, liquid gold.
In contrast, nearly half of those questioned did not know that breast milk contained stem cells, the intricate combination provides a truly unmatched support for baby.
Additionally, more than a third of Medela’s 50,000 online community was unaware that breast milk contains antibacterial properties that can kill cancer cells.
Medela’s Lactation Consultant, Sioned Hilton, highlighted: “There are many amazing benefits to breastfeeding, which we should be celebrating and sharing as a nation.
“It is fantastic to see there is clearly an awareness about the fact breastmilk is bursting with goodness, however it’s the complex properties within the millions of cells that we need to keep educating on.”
She continued: “This World Breastfeeding Week, we want to share the science and wonder of breast milk with families so they can be well informed when taking their first steps into parenthood.”
Medela has been in operation for over 50 years. Their breast pumps have won many awards, including a Which? Best Buy, and are found in 94% of UK hospitals.
